Operation SAFE CHILD
The New York City Police Museum, in partnership with the NYPD, is proud to be a designated site to offer the New York Operation SAFE CHILD program.

Statistics show that 34% of parents in the United States do not know their child’s exact height, weight and eye color. When a child is reported missing, time can be the greatest adversary. Possessing up to date photographs and detailed information about a child can prove to be important proactive measures that can greatly assist local law enforcement officials to respond quickly to a child’s disappearance.

Operation SAFE CHILD, created in 2005, raises awareness about child safety. Through an historic partnership with the New York State Police, New York City Police Department, New York State Sheriffs’ Association, and the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, the Division of Criminal Justice Services and its Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse have expanded Operation SAFE CHILD into a multi-pronged campaign teaching parents and guardians tools to keeping children safe in today’s world.

The SAFE CHILD ID card contains a child’s name, date of birth, gender, height, weight, hair color and eye color, a picture of the child, and a fingerprint image of both index fingers. The card can be easily carried in a wallet.

Parents and Guardians can choose to store the information in the SAFE CHILD ID in a database at the Division of Criminal Justice Services in Albany. The storage of information is entirely voluntary and requires the written consent of a parent or legal guardian.

For more information please visit the Operation Safe Child website at the Division of Criminal Justice Services.

Download the SAFE CHILD form in English or Spanish below and check the Operation SAFE CHILD Box when completing the request for Program Booking form or book an appointment with P.O Mary Lawrence, mlawrence@nycpm.org, 212 480-3100 x104.

All consent forms must be sent back to the museum at least 3 days prior to your visit.

For Educators: Along with the consent form, you may wish to send out this downloadable letter to your parents/guardians.
